AN ENTREPRENEUR TRANSFORMING FITNESS AND SPORTS IN UGANDA

On a typical day, he manages real estate property, investments, and residential & commercial agencies as a consultant and practitioner. On other days, you will find him promoting his side business, REVOLT, an online gym apparel store that sells workout gear, accessories, and equipment.

Aamir Nsamo is a man of many passions and unique interests. He is a fitness junkie, a travel enthusiast, a self-proclaimed meme Lord, and a philanthropist. He is passionate about Rotaract community service, and helping people.

A year ago, amidst the pandemic’s uncertainty, confusion, and anxiety, he founded REVOLT.  ‘’REVOLT started mysteriously.’’ He says.

During the COVID lockdown when everyone was working out from home or jogging around the neighborhood, he noticed that most people needed windbreaker jackets. Since movement was limited, many people could not access these jackets. He began marketing these jackets on social media and delivered them to clients’ doorsteps. Eventually, customers asked for more products. They currently sell gym shirts, shorts, trainers, compression tights, yoga mats, gloves, boxing gloves/pads, and many other items.

If like me, you believe that gym attire consists of that 10-year-old t-shirt in your wardrobe, a pair of old shorts, and stylish sneakers, then you are Aamir’s target market.

‘’Not every shoe is a gym shoe. Most customers don’t know that. When buying a gym trainer, look out for 3 things. Safety. Comfort. Design. In that order. However, most customers go for design or color first. This could injure your knees and back.’’ Aamir advises.

This bespoke customer experience makes him stand out from his competitors. ‘’We do our best to educate them and see them satisfied with our service.’’  He adds.

REVOLT offers some of the best user-friendly fitness equipment on the market. It is easier for customers to work out from their homes and cut gym costs. He prides himself in offering flexibility and convenience to clients through timely deliveries. Although the company operates primarily online, he has recently opened a physical store downtown, at Juba plaza, container village.

On 16^th October 2022, REVOLT will be celebrating its first anniversary. Aamir describes the start-up experience as a cocktail of things.

‘’We have always learned something new. Every customer is a new experience. We learn, unlearn, and relearn. It never gets easier; you just get better’’

The biggest lesson he has learned is the need for people skills and consistency. One needs a plan or a goal to succeed. As REVOLT steps into its second year of business, he will continue to give customers value for money and convenient solutions.

‘’We shall improve our shopping process, provide a positive experience, honesty, motivation, and lastly improve from the feedback. Customers need the product or service to function according to their problem or desire. So we shall continue to give them that.’’
